Pharyngitis is a common medical condition characterized by inflammation of the pharynx, which is the part of the throat located behind the mouth and nasal cavity. It is often referred to as a “sore throat” and can affect people of all ages. ### What is Pharyngitis?
Pharyngitis refers to the swelling and irritation of the pharyngeal tissues. It can be caused by viral infections, bacterial infections, allergies, or environmental irritants such as smoke and pollution. The condition is highly contagious when caused by infectious agents and can spread through respiratory droplets, close contact, or contaminated surfaces.
Pharyngitis is one of the most frequent reasons for doctor visits, especially during colder months when respiratory infections are more common.
